BVMS PTA in support of Black History Month has organized a special event for our Bulldogs to stand on the shoulders of our successful Horace Mann & Beverly Vista alumni. These four giants were a part of the Beverly High Integration Program that was created by Beverly Hills first African American teacher, Lyle Suter. Alumni’s David Gross, Michael Higginbotham, Alan Nierob, and Michael Suter. Our guests will be speaking about their experience going through the integration program, how the black and Jewish community came together during a dark time in history, and friendships and successes that came from those communities working together. They went through the civil rights era, the end of Jim Crow, and lived out the US Supreme Court's most historic ruling “Brown vs. Board of Education” that ended segregation in public schools. For Black History Month, our BVMS PTA Exec Board hosted a special Leadership Lunch for ASB students to meet with HM & BV Alumni, the same day as the assembly Q&A forum that we are organizing for all BVMS students. BVMS PTA catered the lunch in the BVMS Library and invited all of your ASB students, in honor of student & alumni leadership. In addition to lunch, SUPA a local minority-owned coffee & drinks shop donated coffee (for the adults only) and delicious drinks! The format was a Roundtable Luncheon to give ASB students an opportunity to ask questions to our 4 alumni guests with the objective of exploring ways to cultivate an inclusive community culture on campus.
