6th Grade Counselor - khartley@bhusd.org

I have been a counselor since 2016 and started my career in Palo Alto. My masters is from Chapman University, and I am also an alumni from Cal State Long Beach. I love my job and am so happy to support students in feeling safe and successful while they are at BVMS and beyond. I am recently married, and we have an adorable Corgi dog named Maverick together. I love to read, go to the beach, hike and listen to music. I also love watching basketball, my favorite team being The Golden State Warriors - go dubs!

I started working as a school counselor in 2013. I love getting to meet students and families and being a positive part of their school experiences.  I attended California State University, Long Beach for my BA and the University of San Diego for my MA and credential. I grew up in Orange County and enjoy cooking, hiking, and traveling.

8th Grade Counselor- shulsy@bhusd.org

I am happy to join the BVMS counseling team as the 8th-grade counselor.  I came to BVMS after working at BHHS for the past two years. I attended UC Irvine and graduated from there in 1992 as a Psychology major. I fell in love with school counseling during one of my internships at UCI and decided to pursue a Masters degree and PPS Credential in School Counseling from Loyola Marymount University. I was hired as a College Counselor at Chaminade College Prep and have been helping students in this role since 1994.

I am a mom to three wonderful teenagers and when I am not at work, I enjoy playing tennis, going to concerts and traveling to places on my bucket list.

I am excited to help my 8th graders prepare for a successful transition to high school and I am looking forward to an exciting year ahead!
