Mrs. Carver's 6th Grade History - Ancient Civilizations
Hello and welcome to my page! My name is Sara Carver, and I have been teaching here at Beverly Vista Middle School since 2022. I love being a part of the Bulldog family. 💚
I was born and raised in Kansas City, MO (Missouri, not Kansas, and yes, there is a difference!) and graduated from the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma. My path to teaching was a little non-traditional--I spent 10 years as an event manager working with high level special events, first in Tulsa, OK and then in Houston, TX, where I worked with the Houston Texans NFL team and other national level sporting and special events.
After I moved to California, I spent time working at the University of San Diego and the University of California - San Diego. This is really where the pull to teach grew strong. I learned that I really loved guiding and mentoring the student workers, so I decided to combine my love of history with my desire to help build a better world through mentoring the younger generation. Enter teaching! Before arriving at BVMS, I spent four years teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade history for King-Chavez Academy of Excellence in San Diego, CA.
I am excited to share my passion for history and geography with the students at Beverly Vista! Go Bulldogs!
History Class Supplies
Being prepared for class is an important part of learning. Please ensure all students have the following items for history class, and bring them every day:
Required:
- History specific notebook (single subject--I collect this throughout the year, so it can't have other classes in it.)
- Pencils (sharpened before class starts)
- Eraser
- Blue/other colored pen
- Red pen (different from above pen)
- Highlighters
- Agenda/Planner (please see examples linked below)
- 1 Inch Binder (specifically for this class--it will be left in the classroom)
Optional but highly encouraged:
- Colored pencils or markers
- Ruler
- Post-It notes
- Index cards
- Headphones (make sure they are compatible with computer)
Academic Agenda/Planner Requirements
Using an agenda/planner is very important to successfully adapting to middle school. We will use this every day in my class, and my hope is that you will use it in your other classes as well. My requirements for agendas are simple--it must be a full size (approx 8x11), dated agenda with room to write every day (usually called weekly planners). Here are some simple ones I found on Amazon for between $5 - $10.
You can also find planners at Target, Staples, and other supply stores. If you are unsure of if a planner will work, send me a link and I'll look at it.
